If you see the imitation sheets you will notice that it does not say "Egyptian Cotton" on the package, it just says "Egyptian". Waterbed Sheets are attached style with Sateen weave, woven in the best authentic way which is done using the best cotton in the world. This is 100% Egyptian Cotton which is a particular type of long-staple cotton originally grown only along the Nile.
  
Egyptian Cotton ( Gossypium barbadense), also known as extra long staple, South American, Creole, or Sea Island cotton) has the longest fibers for spinning into yarn than any other cotton cultivars.

When intertwining strands of yarn to make a larger strand, this long-staple cotton has fewer connection points, and therefore a greater percentage of area which results in the silky texture of this cotton.

95% of cotton grown in the U.S. today is upland cotton/Mexican cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) and it has a short staple so the sheets are coarser.

Egyptian Cotton Waterbed Sheets King and Queen Washing Instructions

100% cotton waterbed sheets sets are a little more tricky to maintain than blends. They should be washed in cold water, and line or tumble dried. They may wrinkle, and can be expected to shrink 1-2% the first time they are washed. This shrinkage is taken into account when the sheets are manufactured. For this reason, they may fit loosely before laundering, and provide a snug fit afterwards. Do not bleach colors. Always wash deep colors separately before using. Be sure you try the sheets on for size prior to washing - not returnable if used or washed.
